The Star Edition targets precisely this audience. From the outside, the car looks fully loaded. The new color, large alloy wheels, and blacked-out interior—everything is designed to create an emotional connection with the buyer. But the problems begin when you open the spec sheet or understand the ground reality.

The changes Mahindra has made in the Star Edition are mostly visual. Four new colors have been introduced—yellow, white, black, and red. These colors look fresh and grab attention on the road. The interior features a new black theme, with a dual-tone black and off-white dashboard, which gives a premium feel in the showroom. Adding to this are the 19-inch alloy wheels with Star Edition branding. From the outside, anyone would think this is the top-of-the-line model.
But here’s the catch. All these changes only make the car look better. There are no real upgrades in terms of driving experience, safety, or capability. In fact, some very important features that people buy the Thar for have been removed.

The Star Edition isn’t a bad car, but it’s not a true Thar either. If you ask yourself, “Why do I want to buy a Thar?” the answer will become clear.
